31 Now is the time for judgment on this world; now the prince of this world will be driven out. 32 But I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to myself." 33 He said this to show the kind of death he was going to die.
Judgment = Greek word krisis (literal translation = decision)
There are crises, and then there are crises.
It is one thing to face severe trials as a born-again child of God.
Crises test the heart of a believer. Do I trust God? Do I love God no matter what?
It is another thing to face a crisis (and eternity) without God.
Millions of people have a huge crisis on their hands. They are on their way to Hell.
47 "As for the person who hears my words but does not keep them, I do not judge him. For I did not come to judge the world, but to save it. 48 There is a judge for the one who rejects me and does not accept my words; that very word which I spoke will condemn him at the last day. 49 For I did not speak of my own accord, but the Father who sent me commanded me what to say and how to say it. 50 I know that his command leads to eternal life. So whatever I say is just what the Father has told me to say."
Satan is driven out
now the prince of this world will be driven out.
15 And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.
Jesus Draws People to Himself
32 But I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to myself."
'Men' is not in original Greek
This is not universal salvation
'all' defined in John 6:37,39,45
All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never drive away.
And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all that he has given me, but raise them up at the last day.
It is written in the Prophets: 'They will all be taught by God.' Everyone who listens to the Father and learns from him comes to me.
This is a Powerful Principle
Lifted up = literally
33 He said this to show the kind of death he was going to die.
or figuratively. Could all be 'exalted'
When we lift up Jesus, He does the drawing of people to Himself
Christ lifted up in worship and praise.
Christ lifted up in our hearts as Lord.
Christ lifted up in our Obedience
The highest Christian love is not devotion to a work or to a cause, but to Jesus Christ.
-- Oswald Chambers in The Place of Help. Christianity Today, Vol. 31, no. 7.
Christ lifted up in preaching, teaching, and testimonies.
People need to hear about Jesus
14 How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?
Christ lifted up in our homes
Family prayer time
Jesus is all we have; He is all we need and all we want. We are shipwrecked on God and stranded on omnipotence!
-- Vance Havner, Leadership, Vol. 3, no. 3.
