Two Outcomes
By Pastor John

Matthew 7:13-29
13 "Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14 But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it. 15 "Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. 16 By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17 Likewise every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them. 21 "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?' 23 Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!' 24 "Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash." 28 When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching, 29 because he taught as one who had authority, and not as their teachers of the law.

There are Two Possible Outcomes to Our lives - Two Outcomes Based on Two Gates
13 "Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14 But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.

Jesus is the Narrow Gate that leads to life.
John 10:9
9 I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. He will come in and go out, and find pasture.

Satan always has a counterfeit to God's plan. Jesus told the disciples,
15 "Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves.

That is Satan's counterfeit. That "wide gate" and "broad way" is Satan's attempt to lure millions into the fiery pits of hell.
Satan has that wide gate.
He makes the "wide gate" look very similar to the narrow one.
He paints the "broad way" in religious colors.
He is very successful in his approach. Jesus Himself said, "many enter through it."

Man's Way = Religion is founded on works. "What must I do...."

But our works accomplish nothing.
Matthew 7:22, 23
Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?' 23    Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!'

Proverbs 16:25
There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death.

Man has always sought his own salvation. Adam and Eve did in the Garden of Eden, when they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves aprons of covering. God did not accept their efforts, and neither will He accept ours.

There are two ways to seek salvation: Man's way - "works", and God's way - "be born again".

Man says, "I'll make my own way."
Maybe your way is that you teach in some class in the S/S.
Perhaps you are counting your baptism as sufficient.
Your name on the roll of this church may the ticket that you hold in your hand to go to heaven.  Maybe you sincerely try to keep the commandments and be a good person.  Maybe you are a helping person. You help do things around the church. You are always working, working, doing things and your hope is that those things you do will be enough to take you to heaven.

God's Way = to be born again.
John 3:3
In reply Jesus declared, "I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again."

1. You have been born with the sin nature.
Psalm 51:5
Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me.

2. You have to be born again with God's nature.
2 Corinthians 5:21
God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

1 Corinthians 15:22
For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive.

There are Two Outcomes Based on Two Ways to Build
24 "Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.
