4 The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. 5 For we do not preach ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus' sake. 6 For God, who said, "Let light shine out of darkness," made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ. 7 But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.
The jars of the human heart can be filled with either trash or treasure. In the beginning, we were created to be the temple of God, meant to contain the treasure of God. But in our fallen state, we are reduced to being the dwelling place of the devil. When Jesus Christ comes into our hearts, we become jars of clay full of treasure.
A Sinful Heart is a Trashcan
1) An evil trashcan filled with worldly desires
2) A dirty trashcan filled with sin and depravity
3) A greedy trashcan filled with covetousness
4) A trashcan filled with pride and arrogance
19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved
darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20 Everyone
who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear
that his deeds will be exposed.
A Redeemed Heart is a Jar full of Treasure
1) filled with Jesus Christ
2) filled with the Holy Spirit
3) filled with faith and obedience
4) filled with the Word of God
5) filled with Love, Joy and Peace
The treasure placed in our hearts (jars of clay) is the Light of Christ
6 For God, who said, "Let light shine out of darkness," made His light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ. 7 But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.
21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God."
Repent of the darkness (trash) and come to the Light - Jesus Christ
12 When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."
