The Virgin Birth
By Pastor John

Isaiah 7:14
14 Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.

Some deny the virgin birth.

What the Scripture says:
Matthew 1:18
18 This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit.

Matthew 1:20
20 But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, "Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.

Matthew 1:22-23
22 All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: 23 "The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel" -- which means, "God with us."

Luke 1:31-35
31 You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus. 32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, 33 and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever; his kingdom will never end." 34 "How will this be," Mary asked the angel, "since I am a virgin?" 35 The angel answered, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.

Why the Virgin Birth matters:

If Jesus was not born of a virgin, the New Testament narratives are proved untrue and unreliable.

Mary is stained with the sin of fornication.

Jesus was mistaken about His paternity.

Jesus was therefore an illegitimate child, his father unknown.

He is consequently not the God-man or Son of God.

Therefore, He was a sinner like the rest of us.

As a sinner, Jesus could not be the divine Redeemer.

We have, then, no Savior at all.

We are then yet in our sins and without forgiveness.

We would have no hope after death.

There would be no mediator between God and man.

If there is no Second Person, there is no Trinity at all.

Christ should have prayed, "Father, forgive us," not "Forgive them," if He was a sinner like the rest of us.

If this miracle is denied, we must deny them all.

One Final Proof

Mary.  Jesus was crucified for claiming God was His Father.  If Joseph had really been Jesus' father, Mary would have rushed forward to tell the truth, and probably could have stopped the crucifixion.  What mother would not have done that if it were true.

No doubt about it. Jesus is the Son of God, born of the Holy Spirit.
