36 "Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ."
Jesus is called Savior 24 times in the New Testament
Jesus is called Lord over 600 times
2 Peter 3:18
18 But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen.
The Lordship of Jesus Christ is Deserved
8 And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death-- even death on a cross! 9 Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. 12 Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed-- not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence-- continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling,
9 For this very reason, Christ died and returned to life so that he might be the Lord of both the dead and the living.
The Lordship of Jesus Christ Demands Obedience
46 "Why do you call me, 'Lord, Lord,' and do not do what I say?
1 Peter 3:15
15 But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord.
Christ always insists on being Lord. He is constantly calling believers to obedience.
To some here the Lord is insisting that you must forgive.
To some the Lord is insisting that you serve Him.
To some the Lord is insisting that you completely repent of a certain sin in your life.
To some the Lord is insisting that you have a deeper prayer life.
Those who claim to be Christians but never submit to the Lordship of Jesus Christ are fake Christians.
21 "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?' 23 Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!'
The Lordship of Jesus Christ is Directed by the Holy Spirit
1 Corinthians 12:3b
No one can say, "Jesus is Lord," except by the Holy Spirit.
It is obvious that this verse does not mean that is it impossible for a person to say these words apart from the Holy Spirit (see Matthew 7:21-23 above), but that one cannot concede to Jesus Christ this position of Lordship and maintain that attitude apart from the enabling of the Holy Spirit.
The Lordship of Jesus Christ leads to Joy
4 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!
We are not told to rejoice in the Lord's blessings, but rather in the Lord Himself.
