The Bird Feeder
By Karen L. Mechtly

Matthew 6:25-26
"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? (NIV)

My husband and I recently purchased a bird feeder. We hung it up on our deck railing so we could easily watch the birds. I was amazed at how quickly the birds found the feeder. In no time at all, we had thirteen sparrows vying for their turn at the feeder. We have enjoyed watching them as much as they have enjoyed the bird seed!

As I watched the sparrows eating, I remembered the verses from Matthew about how God cares for the birds. Although they neither sow nor reap, they get fed every day. Worms, insects and water are all provided by God's creation. That makes God the ultimate Bird Feeder. But birds are not the only ones who benefit form God's generosity. Matthew goes on to say that since we are more valuable than birds, we do not need to worry about procuring our food. God will provide for us as well.

It is reassuring to know that God will provide for my needs. Like the birds, I do not need to worry about tomorrow. I am so thankful that I know The Bird Feeder and can rely on Him.

Dear Lord, Help me not to fret or worry. Help me to remember that You care about all my needs.
