Steps to Joy

Psalm 37:1-7
1 Do not fret because of evildoers, nor be envious of the workers of iniquity.
2 For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb.
3 Trust in the LORD, and do good; dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness.
4 Delight yourself also in the LORD, and He shall give you the desires of your heart.
5 Commit your way to the LORD, trust also in Him, and He shall bring it to pass.
6 He shall bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your justice as the noonday.
7 Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for Him; do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, because of the man who brings wicked schemes to pass.  (NKJ)

Do Not Fret
1 Do not fret because of evildoers, nor be envious of the workers of iniquity.
2 For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb.

Psalm 37:8
8 Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret-- it leads only to evil.

Trust in the Lord
3 Trust in the LORD, and do good; dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness.

Trust the Lord, do good to other, and reap the benefits of His faithfulness. The doing is the act of trust.

Delight yourself in the Lord
4 Delight yourself also in the LORD, and He shall give you the desires of your heart.

Take your pleasure in the Lord. May He be your first and greatest love. Many want God's blessing when they are in need. But He wants our love and delight all of the time. Then He promises to give us the desires of our hearts. As we delight in Him, He will place those desires in our hearts.

Matthew 22:37-38
37 Jesus replied: "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' 38    This is the first and greatest commandment.

Commit Your Way to Him
5 Commit your way to the LORD, trust also in Him, and He shall bring it to pass.
6 He shall bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your justice as the noonday.

This can literally be translated: "Roll your works on the Lord." All your actions, enterprises, undertakings - let God be responsible for them. If they become too heavy to lift, no matter, just ROLL them on Him. If you commit it all to God and trust Him implicitly, He will bring it to pass.

Rest in the Lord
7 Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for Him; do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, because of the man who brings wicked schemes to pass.

When we take up the yoke with the Lord, He does the heavy work.

Matthew 11:29-30
29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."

Great Promises from Psalm 37
Psalm 37:23-28
23 The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD, and He delights in his way. 24 Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down; for the LORD upholds him with His hand. 25 I have been young, and now am old; yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his descendants begging bread. 26 He is ever merciful, and lends; and his descendants are blessed. 27 Depart from evil, and do good; and dwell forevermore. 28 For the LORD loves justice, and does not forsake His saints; they are preserved forever, but the descendants of the wicked shall be cut off.
