He called a little child and had him stand among them. And he said: "I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
I had forgotten how innocent and trusting little children are. Then recently my husband and I were privileged to care for four grandchildren (all under the age of seven) while their parents took a well-deserved vacation …without them!
We went on many walks. It was refreshing to me when they regarded dandelions as pretty flowers and ladybugs as magnificent fliers instead of weeds and pests that needed to be eradicated. They were thrilled by the sight of rabbits in our back yard and hunted for others of God's wonderful creation.
It was also refreshing that they trusted me completely. They never wondered if I had enough gas in the car to get to the lake or enough money in my pocket to buy them ice cream cones. They just knew I would meet their needs.
No wonder Jesus used little children as an example in the Bible. We need to trust God to meet our needs just as easily as my grandchildren trusted me. We need not second guess His plans for us. We should simply trust that He will meet all of our needs, as He has told us He would in His Word.
Dear Father, Help me to trust you, my heavenly father, as completely as a small child trusts his earthly father.
