All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
I thought the hot dog exploding in the microwave would finally impress upon my Dad the importance of reading instructions. But it did not. Although he was a loving father and a faithful servant of the Lord, he refused to read instructions. He often said that instructions were meant only for those who did not already know how to do it. He, of course, already knew how. Because of this, he was often frustrated. He wasted time putting things together, then taking them apart and putting them back together again. And the over-nuked hot dog was not the only huge mess he created.
Too often, we are like that. We think we already have all the answers. Without bothering to read what God has to say on a subject, we forge ahead. And like my Dad, we often find ourselves frustrated. We waste time, we have to rework things and we create big messes that we have to clean up.
We could avoid all this if only we would pick up the Bible and read the instructions God gave us. As Paul wrote to Timothy, sometimes we need to be taught, other times rebuked and other times equipped for the work at hand. No matter what we need, we will find it in the pages of God's Word.
Remember, read His instruction book first!
Dear God, Help me to start with your Word. Help me to realize that I need Your help and instruction.
