Yet I am not ashamed, because I know whom I have believed, and am convinced that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him for that day. What you heard from me, keep as the pattern of sound teaching, with faith and love in Christ Jesus. Guard the good deposit that was entrusted to you -- guard it with the help of the Holy Spirit who lives in us.
My Aunt Arlene died recently. She had an unexpected heart attack which ended her life at 93 years old. She had lived by herself and still enjoyed traveling to visit her daughters who lived out of state. While in the hospital at the end, she longer recognized her children and grandchildren. But she did recognize her relationship with her precious Lord and Savior. As she lay on her death bed, she sang "How Great Thou Art!" What a precious memory for her family!
She leaves a precious legacy of faith: a son was a minister, a daughter is a pastor's wife, and several grandchildren serve the Lord in full time ministries. Aunt Arlene was faithful in teaching her children, grandchildren, and children in her church about the love of Jesus Christ. It was reported at her funeral that at least 40 of the teens in the youth group she lead had become pastors, pastor's wives or missionaries.
Aunt Arlene had the same had the same attitude as the apostle Paul:
12 …. I am not ashamed, because I know whom I have believed, and am convinced that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him for that day.
May we be as faithful to our Lord.
Dear Lord, Help me to keep your sound teachings to the end and help me to pass them along to others.
