Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. (NKJ)
It was my grandson's last day of kindergarten and my husband and I were picking him up to go out and celebrate his accomplishment. On the way to his favorite fast food restaurant, he made a bold statement: "Now I know everything!" My husband and I could hardly contain our laughter, and assured him there was still much to learn.
Despite the popular book of a few years ago, we don't learn everything we need to know in kindergarten. It's just the first tiny step of a long journey in education. Kindergarteners learn the basics, but there is so much more to discover.
This is also true of our walk with God. Once we master the basics from the Word we might be tempted to proclaim "Now I know everything!" But we have taken just one tiny step of a life-long journey of getting to know God and what He says in His Word. We need to be diligent to keep studying. In the "Sermon on the Mount," Jesus told His listeners that those who "hunger and thirst after righteousness" are blessed. May we all be blessed as we hunger after God.
Lord, May I never feel like I know everything there is to know about You. May I always be hungry for more.
