Noah: Heir of the Righteousness that Comes by Faith
By Pastor John

Hebrews 11:7
7 By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family. By his faith he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that comes by faith.

True faith is always supported by actions.
James 2:26
26    .. faith without deeds is dead.

By Faith Noah responded to God's Word
7 By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family.

The Lord warned Noah about something not seen. In fact, he was warned about something that had never happened before, rain and a flood.

Noah was given a huge task.
Genesis 6:14-16
14 So make yourself an ark of cypress wood; make rooms in it and coat it with pitch inside and out. 15 This is how you are to build it: The ark is to be 450 feet long, 75 feet wide and 45 feet high. 16 Make a roof for it and finish the ark to within 18 inches of the top. Put a door in the side of the ark and make lower, middle and upper decks.

The ark was big enough to hold 522 standard railroad cars (one railroad car holds 240 sheep). The ark would have been big enough to hold 45,000 average (sheep-sized) animals, plus the equivalent of 312 railroad cars for food.

In "holy fear" he built the ark.

The ark is a beautiful picture of salvation.  All who wanted to enter were welcome.  Only eight entered.

By Faith Noah condemned the world.
By his faith he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that comes by faith.

For 120 years, while he was building the ark, Noah proclaimed God's warning to the people. In 2 Peter 2:5, he is called "a preacher of righteousness."

For 120 years he tried to convince people that the rain and the flood would come, though no one had ever seen either.

Because the people did not believe, they perished.  God's warning brings salvation to those who believe, but condemnation to those who do not believe.

People have not changed since Noah's day.
Matthew 24:37-42
37 As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. 38 For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; 39 and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. 40 Two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other left. 41 Two women will be grinding with a hand mill; one will be taken and the other left. 42 "Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come.

By Faith Noah received God's righteousness.
By his faith he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that comes by faith.
