3 As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately. "Tell us," they said, "when will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?" 4 Jesus answered: "Watch out that no one deceives you. 5 For many will come in my name, claiming, 'I am the Christ,' and will deceive many. 6 You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. 7 Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. 8 All these are the beginning of birth pains.
Six Signs of Christ's Coming
1. False Christs.
4 Jesus answered: "Watch out that no one deceives you. 5 For many will come in my name, claiming, 'I am the Christ,' and will deceive many.
There have always been false Christ's who deceive people in difficult times. In the end times, which will be troubled, many people will be deceived.
6 You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. 7 Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.
There have always been wars. It is a symptom of a sin-scarred world. But see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, probably to prepare things for the end.
3. Natural Disasters.
There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. 8 All these are the beginning of birth pains.
There have been many high profile earthquakes lately (Haiti, Peru and others) In a typical year, there are about 30,000 earthquakes, with over 100,000 deaths.
There have always been false Christ's, wars, and natural disasters, but there are a few signs that are happening for the first time ever.
4. Gospel preached to whole world.
14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.
We are closing in on this. The Gospel has gone to every nation. Portions of the Bible are in 97 percent of the world's languages.
5. Israel has returned as a nation.
32 "Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near. 33 Even so, when you see all these things, you know that it is near, right at the door. 34 I tell you the truth, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened.
The fig tree is one of the symbols of Israel.
Finally, the sure sign that Christ's return is about to happen.
6. The appearance of the anti-Christ.
15 "So when you see standing in the holy place 'the abomination that causes desolation,' spoken of through the prophet Daniel -- let the reader understand -- 16 then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. 17 Let no one on the roof of his house go down to take anything out of the house. 18 Let no one in the field go back to get his cloak. 19 How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers!
27 He will confirm a covenant with many for one 'seven.' In the middle of the 'seven' he will put an end to sacrifice and offering. And on a wing [of the temple] he will set up an abomination that causes desolation, until the end that is decreed is poured out on him."
The rise of the anti-Christ will likely come during a global economic crisis. He will take leadership when the world economy has crumbled. He will put in rules that a person cannot buy or sell without the mark of the beast.
The Bible says the Anti-Christ will appear before the coming of Jesus Christ.
II Thessalonians 2:1-4
1 Concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered to him, we ask you, brothers, 2 not to become easily unsettled or alarmed by some prophecy, report or letter supposed to have come from us, saying that the day of the Lord has already come. 3 Don't let anyone deceive you in any way, for that day will not come until the rebellion occurs and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the man doomed to destruction. 4 He will oppose and will exalt himself over everything that is called God or is worshiped, so that he sets himself up in God's temple, proclaiming himself to be God.
We must be ready
44 So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.
