Hope for Fools

Psalm 107:17-22
17 Some became fools through their rebellious ways and suffered affliction because of their iniquities. 18 They loathed all food and drew near the gates of death. 19 Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress. 20 He sent forth his word and healed them; he rescued them from the grave. 21 Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for men. 22 Let them sacrifice thank offerings and tell of his works with songs of joy.

I don't call anyone a fool.  But God does, and He never calls anyone a fool who isn't one.

Fools
17 Some became fools through their rebellious ways

Psalm 14:1
1 The fool says in his heart, "There is no God." They are corrupt, their deeds are vile; there is no one who does good.

Proverbs 10:18
18 He who conceals his hatred has lying lips, and whoever spreads slander is a fool.

Proverbs 10:23
23 A fool finds pleasure in evil conduct, but a man of understanding delights in wisdom.

Proverbs 13:19
19 A longing fulfilled is sweet to the soul, but fools detest turning from evil.

Proverbs 14:16-17
16 A wise man fears the LORD and shuns evil, but a fool is hotheaded and reckless. 17 A quick-tempered man does foolish things, and a crafty man is hated.

Proverbs 26:11
11 As a dog returns to its vomit, so a fool repeats his folly.

Luke 12:16-21
16 And he told them this parable: "The ground of a certain rich man produced a good crop. 17 He thought to himself, 'What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops.' 18 "Then he said, 'This is what I'll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. 19 And I'll say to myself, "You have plenty of good things laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry." ' 20 "But God said to him, 'You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?' 21 "This is how it will be with anyone who stores up things for himself but is not rich toward God.

Fools suffer because of their sin.
Psalm 107:17-18
17 Some became fools through their rebellious ways and suffered affliction because of their iniquities. 18 They loathed all food and drew near the gates of death.

Matthew 7:24-27
24 "Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash."

Fools who genuinely cry out to God will be saved.
19 Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress.
20 He sent forth his word and healed them; he rescued them from the grave.

There must be repentance. When a fool is truly saved, he ceases to be a fool. He must not go back to his previous folly.

"He sent forth his word." - double meaning. "The Word" - scripture. "The Word" - Jesus.

We should praise our Savior who saved us from our sin and folly.
21 Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for men. 22 Let them sacrifice thank offerings and tell of his works with songs of joy.
