He Knows My Name
By Karen L. Mechtly

Isaiah 43:1b (NAS)
"Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name; you are Mine!

No one knows the importance of being called by their own name more than an identical twin. Although I love my twin sister dearly, I don't want to be called by her name. I still remember as a four-year-old sobbing to my mother after Sunday School that the teacher knew everyone's name but mine. But she wasn't the only one. Sometimes my own father even called me "Sharen."

There was one thing worse than being called by the wrong name. That was being called "twin." To me, that meant the person wasn't even trying to figure out who I was. I felt like I wasn't important enough for them to get my name right.

What a comfort to read in the Bible that God calls me by name. He will never get me mixed up with Sharen, or any of the other six billion plus people on this earth. Unlike my earthly father, my heavenly Father will always know my name.

Lord, Thank You that You love me and will always call me by my name.
