Goliath Had Rocks In His Head

Read 1 Samuel 17:1-52

Goliath had rocks in his head to trust in his own strength and ability.
1 Samuel 17:8-10
8 Goliath stood and shouted to the ranks of Israel, "Why do you come out and line up for battle? Am I not a Philistine, and are you not the servants of Saul? Choose a man and have him come down to me. 9 If he is able to fight and kill me, we will become your subjects; but if I overcome him and kill him, you will become our subjects and serve us." 10 Then the Philistine said, "This day I defy the ranks of Israel! Give me a man and let us fight each other."

He was a hero to the Philistines, and had been for some time.  He was much bigger and stronger than anyone else.  He thought he was invincible.  He was full of pride. Pride may endure and prosper for a while, but ultimately it comes crashing down.

Proverbs 11:2
When pride comes, then comes dishonor, but with the humble is wisdom.

Proverbs 16:18-19
18 Pride {goes} before destruction, and a haughty spirit before stumbling.
19 It is better to be of a humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud.

Proverbs 29:23
23 A man's pride will bring him low, but a humble spirit will obtain honor.

1 Peter 5:5-7
5 You younger men, likewise, be subject to your elders; and all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, for God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble. 6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time, 7 casting all your anxiety upon Him, because He cares for you.

Goliath had rocks in his head to oppose God and His people.

Read Psalm 2 - "Kiss the Son"

Psalm 37:9-13
"For evildoers will be cut off, but those who wait for the LORD, they will inherit the land. Yet a little while and the wicked man will be no more; and you will look carefully for his place, and he will not be {there.} But the humble will inherit the land, and will delight themselves in abundant prosperity. The wicked plots against the righteous, and gnashes at him with his teeth. The Lord laughs at him; for He sees his day is coming."

This doesn't apply only to God's enemies.  See 1 Samuel 15, Saul's rebellion.

Young people - If  you want to be great in God's kingdom, obey Him.
David - "And then they asked for a king, and God gave them Saul the son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, for forty years. And after He had removed him, He raised up David to be their king, concerning whom He also testified and said, 'I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after My heart, who will do all My will.' Acts 13:21-22

David did not rely upon himself.  Though he had wealth and power, he never became proud.  His hope was always in God:
Psalm 40:1-4
"I waited patiently for the LORD; and He inclined to me, and heard my cry. He brought me up out of the pit of destruction, out of the miry clay; and He set my feet upon a rock making my footsteps firm. And He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God; many will see and fear, and will trust in the LORD. How blessed is the man who has made the LORD his trust, and has not turned to the proud, nor to those who lapse into falsehood.

Finally, Goliath did have a rock in his head.
His reward for his pride and insolence;  his reward for opposing the living God.
