Eat and Be Satisfied
By Karen L. Mechtly

Deuteronomy 11:15
15 I will provide grass in the fields for your cattle, and you will eat and be satisfied.

I was frustrated! I was overweight, and it seemed impossible for me to stay below my allotted calorie count. When I gave into my cravings and ate, I felt guilty. Something had to break this miserable cycle. As a Christian, I knew I could pray about anything, even sticking to a diet. I begged God to help me. He answered in a wonderful way.
I was reading in Deuteronomy 11 and came across a verse that spoke to my heart. The Israelites were preparing to cross the Jordan and enter the Promised Land. God listed the promises they would receive if they obeyed and loved Him.  In addition to the promises of safety and peace, God said, "…you will eat and be satisfied."
The answer to my diet frustration was there in black and white! If I would love and obey God, He would allow me to feel completely satisfied by eating the calories I was allowed. Immediately I claimed that verse as my personal promise.
It worked. From that day on, when I felt hungry after consuming my allotted calories, I repeated the promise "you will eat and be satisfied." No more guilt because I had slipped or grouchiness because I was hungry. God gave me the power I lacked to stay on my diet. I attained my goal weight in three months. To God be the glory!

Dear Lord, Help me to rely on You and not myself, whatever trial I am facing.
