Before they call I will answer; while they are still speaking I will hear.
At our Family Church Camp a several years ago, I saw that there was a session designed for caregivers of the terminally ill. As a pastor's wife, I figured I would attend in order to gain some insight into what a caregiver faces and maybe I would be able to offer some encouragement. One of the tools the speaker told us about was a devotional book written especially for the terminally ill. I bought a copy. Since I also worked at a Christian Book Store, I was on the lookout for books to recommend to our customers. I knew from experience that there were not many of those kinds of books available.
But just thirteen short months later, I was the one who needed the devotional book. My nineteen-year-old daughter was diagnosed with a deadly form of cancer. I needed to read the devotionals to her and the book was already in my library. Before I knew I needed it, God had provided it. He answered me before I even asked. How wonderful God is.
Over the next nine months as we fought the cancer, God showed Himself to our family in many ways. We were amazed at the kindness we received from family, friends and total strangers. Even though she lost the fight here on earth, we know she is safe in the arms of Jesus.
Every time I see the devotion book on my shelf, I am reminded that God answered me before I even asked. It reinforces my belief that nothing that comes into our lives is a surprise to God.
Dear God, Thank You for providing my needs even before I ask.
