A Greater Than Solomon is Here
By Pastor John

Luke 11:31-32
31 The Queen of the South will rise at the judgment with the men of this generation and condemn them; for she came from the ends of the earth to listen to Solomon's wisdom, and now one greater than Solomon is here. 32 The men of Nineveh will stand up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it; for they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and now one greater than Jonah is here.

Love of Celebrity. Human nature was the same in Bible days.  Some people would rather listen to a famous person than to the Lord.

Solomon is a type of Christ in many ways:

1. He was the wisest man in the world.  When one thinks of wisdom, one thinks of Solomon. He was a master of many wisdoms. He spoke of the trees and the animals and the insects and the fishes.

He also was an architect and an engineer.
Ecclesiastes 2:4-6
"I enlarged my works: I built houses for myself, I planted vineyards for myself; I made gardens and parks for myself, and I planted in them all kinds of fruit trees; I made ponds of water for myself from which to irrigate a forest of growing trees."

He was wise in government and the affairs of people.  Example - The two women and the baby.

He left us great writings full of wisdom.

And yet his wisdom, great as it was, was just a drop in the bucket when compared to Jesus Christ.  Christ is omniscient.

We can come to Christ and find wisdom.  "He is made unto us wisdom….."

2. Solomon was the richest man on the earth.
Ecclesiastes 2:7-10
"I bought male and female slaves, and I had homeborn slaves. Also I possessed flocks and herds larger than all who preceded me in Jerusalem. Also, I collected for myself silver and gold, and the treasure of kings and provinces. I provided for myself male and female singers and the pleasures of men-- many concubines. Then I became great and increased more than all who preceded me in Jerusalem. My wisdom also stood by me. And all that my eyes desired I did not refuse them. I did not withhold my heart from any pleasure, for my heart was pleased because of all my labor and this was my reward for all my labor.

Christ is infinitely richer. He created and owns everything.

3. Solomon was a prince of peace.

Some think his name means peace.  While his father David was a man of war and bloodshed, Solomon never had to fight a war.  He had peace on all sides.  No one dared pick a fight with him because he was so powerful.

Jesus is the ultimate Prince of Peace.
John 14:27
"Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives, do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful."

4. Solomon had dominion far and wide.  "from sea to sea, and from the river even unto the ends of the earth."

Christ has dominion of all things.

Christ was not only greater than Solomon in these things, but He had other greatness that Solomon did not have.

1. Christ far exceeded Solomon in character.

Solomon was a sinner, and reaped the consequences of his sin.

Christ was sinless, perfect in every way.

2. Christ is infinitely greater than Solomon in influence.

Solomon has little, if any, influence today.

Christ is the greatest influence the world has ever seen.

3.Christ can save, and heal, and sanctify and bless as Solomon never could.

Ecclesiastes 12:13-14
13 Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole [duty] of man. 14 For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil.
