A Cup of Cold Water
By Karen L, Mechtly

Matthew 10:42
And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones because he is my disciple, I tell you the truth, he will certainly not lose his reward.

I never really thought about the small kindness of my mailman until he retired. Instead of a mailbox, my house has a mail slot in the door. My former mailman did not use the slot. Instead, he opened our door and set the mail on the stoop inside. He also would place packages inside. Then, after being my mailman for 11 years, he retired.

The first time I missed this small act of kindness was on a rainy day. When I arrived home and opened the door, I dripped water all over the mail that was lying on the floor. I also left muddy footprints on the envelopes. The next time I really missed the retired mailman was when I went out one morning, and there, outside the door was a package. Thankfully, it had not rained or snowed overnight and the package was unharmed. However, it could easily have been ruined.

The Bible says that if we give even a cup of cold water to a little one, we will not lose our reward. We are not all the position to do great things, but we can all do small acts of kindness. Look around and see who you can bless with a "cup of cold water" today.

Lord, open my eyes to see how I can be a blessing to others.
